Imphal, August 21 2011:
Former Principal of Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School, now transferred to Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School K Sumati Devi has been accused of misappropriating Rs 17,67,248 .
A reliable source informed that the misappropriated amount of Rs 17,67,248 was collected from students as admission fee for the academic session 2011-12 .
Student body, DESAM also convened a press conference today evening to level the allegations.
Around Rs 9 lakhs collected as admission fee from Class XII students for the academic session 2011-12 was deposited in SBI Secretariat Branch.
Another Rs 10,00685 collected from Class XI students as admission fee was deposited in Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank.
These two amounts were deposited in the two separate banks in June this year.
In the meantime, TG Hr sec School Principal K Sumati was transferred to Ananda Singh Hr Sec School and her Ananda Singh Hr Sec School counterpart T Pramodini was transferred to her former school.
As the transfer and re-posting was being effected, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) fixed August 20 as the last date to deposit Rs 2.5 lakhs as enrolment and registration fee for class XI and class XII students.
Teachers of TG Hr Sec School deposited the amount on time in view of the career of students.
Before depositing the enrolment and registration fee with COHSEM, teachers checked the bank balance both at SBI Secretariat branch and Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank.
At SBI Secretariat branch, there was only Rs 11437 in balance after drawing Rs 8, 88,563 out of Rs 9 lakhs deposited.
As against Rs 10,00685 deposited at Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank (IUCB), an amount of Rs 8,78,685 was found drawn, and there was only Rs 1,22,000 in balance.
The amount of Rs 8,78,685 found missing from IUCB was drawn by former Principal K Sumati in five phases between July 14 and August 1 .
Even as a total amount of Rs 17,67,248 was drawn, nothing was done for the school, disclosed the source.
In connection with the misappropriation of this huge amount, teaching and non-teaching staff of TG Hr Sec School submitted a representation to the Director, Education (S) on August 19 .
In addition to the admission fees, K Sumati has allegedly swindled another Rs two lakhs which were meant for distribution to students under free studentship scheme and Government's incentive scheme.
Incidentally, Principal K Sumati has been nominated by the Government for national award.
