Time to transcript books, publish dictionary in Meetei Mayek: Prof Kangjia

It high time to transcript Manipuri books printed in Bengali script into Meetei Mayek and also to publish a dictionary in the Meetei Mayek script, asserted Professor Ng Kangjia Mangang, retired Principal, Presidency College, Motbung today.
He was speaking in the book release function of a book titled "SEE THE C" (Programming Language) written by Kishorjit Nongmeikapam held at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kangjia said that students up to class VII have already learnt their textbooks in Meetei Mayek.
The day is not far when the script will replace the existing Bengali script in textbooks of up to class XII and so on.
By that time, students will need various reference books published in Meetei Mayek to excel in their study.
It very important to transcript the available textbooks printed in Bengali script to Meetei Mayek.
Moreover there is special need to publish a dictionary in Meetei Mayek also, he said.
In such a time, the society also needs computer experts who are enthusiasts and love the Meetei Mayek.
He said, Kishorjit Nongmeikapam who is publishing a computer programming language book should be encouraged at all cost.
Those who are experts in the field of computer applications should devise easier ways to use Meetei Mayek through computers.
Since computers have become an integral part of our lives, it is very important to develop new technologies to develop usage of Meetei Mayek in computers, he said.
Many efforts are being made to include Meetei Mayek as a computer language and have sent the scripts to the USA to make Unicode of the script since making Unicode script is done only in the USA.
As soon as the encoding of Meetei Mayek into Unicode is completed, the script will become one of the computer languages used in computers and softwares used in computers, he said.
VC, MU, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma who attended the function as Chief Guest said that the work of Kishorjit is a work of technical calculations and research.
He should be encouraged to bring a bright future of the state in the world.
Moreover, his book will become a major reference book for those students studying Computer Science.
