Imphal, March 30:
Intensifying its demand to implement Meetei Mayek, MEELAL activists today greeted Chief Minister O Ibobi on his return from New Delhi by burning Manipuri text books written in Bengali script.
In a statement, MEELAL said that 13 people including the daughter of the chief of Kasom Khullen in Ukhrul district and 11 Kuki activists took part in the demonstration and were rounded up by the police.
The agitators also carried placards written in English, Meeteilon, Naga language and Kuki language to demand the immediate implementation of Meetei Mayek, claimed the statement.
Warning all transporters and drivers to abide by the economic blockade call given by MEELAL, the statement said that those who defy the blockade call will be treated as enemies of the people.
Striking a firm tone, MEELAL further said that if the Govt continues to be adamant and refuses to implement the indigenous script then it should be ready to face all undesirable developments in the future.
Already MEELAL activists have launched a series of agitation since February 10 and there is no reason why the movement will slow down, said the statement reasoning that today it has become a people's movement and MEELAL is only leading from the front.
