Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has given its approval for setting up two mini stadiums in Manipur with the main objective of grooming football players from grassroots level, according to S Kumari who has been newly elected as a member of the AFC�s women committee.
Talking to media persons at the office of the Imphal West SP here this afternoon, Kumari, who had participated in the two-day workshop on �Vision India: Strategic Plan for Football Development� held at AFC House, Kaula Lumpur from March 23 as one of the delegates of All India Football Federation (AIFF) said that two delegates of AFC namely Thomas and Jita would be arriving at Imphal within April 23 for giving coaching to young players.
The two delegates would be staying at Imphal till April 28 and would be accompanied by AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco, she added.
While informing that the two day long workshop discussed the present standard of Football in India and various other ways to improve and develop the game, she said that the workshop after a serious deliberation decided to promote the game among players between the age of 9 to 10 and provide coaching to them.
The workshop also decided to set up mini football stadiums in Delhi as well as in Manipur so that the game could be promoted from grassroots levels, she said, adding that required expenditure for setting up these stadiums would be financed by AFC.
Accordingly, the number of stadiums to be set up in Manipur is two, he disclosed.
A resident of Chingarel, Ukhrul Road, Kumari had led the Indian women football team twice as captain and played at various National and International level tournaments.
