Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) would be observing the 71st commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day on April 1 under the theme of �Unity is Strength� at Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong Hqs.
Power Minister Gaikhangam and ZU president D Dikambui would attend the function as chief guest and president respectively while MLAs Z Mangaibou and Samuel Jendai would grace the occasion as guests of honour.
Intellectuals of Zeliangrong community, public leaders, missionary workers besides representatives of various Zeliangrong villages of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland would also be taking part in the function.
Releasing of magazine, �Cross-Road�, cultural dances, folk songs, talent display, ethnic attire parade and selection of the Solidarity Queen are among the main attractions of the event.
It may be recalled here that the commemorative function is being organised every year on April 1 since 1934 to mark the solidarity rite of Chuk-Thoibe/Chuk-Thoibu/Chuk-Sumei performed on this day at Tamenglong to purify the forbidden sins and acts of the past so that all the barriers that prevented the people to unite could be done away with.
ZU urges: Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has urged the State Govt for taking up immediate action for paying ex-gratia in favour of Achung Kamei whose husband, Kinkhollung Kamei of Ragailong, Imphal , a draftsman in Economic and Statistics Dept died during election duty on November 25, 1989 at 56/20 Songtal polling station of Thanlong in Churachandpur dist as well as to three other persons who sustained injuries during a shoot out between the security personnel and underground activists on Aug 4, 1999.The identities of the three persons who sustained injuries in the shoot out are P Aguilung (50) wife of late Kangampou Palmei of Sawombung Kabui Khunjao, Kamei Premcha (25) K Sanamacha Kabui and Longmei Maipak s/o L Makulang.
