Reacting immediately to the news report which appeared on the September 29 issue of this paper under the heading, "In Tml it is a curse to conceive," Health Minister L Nandakumar has issued a strict instruction to the Health Commissioner to find out whether the gynaecologist and anaesthetist posted at the Tamenglong district hospital have reported for duty or not.
The Commissioner is to submit his report within 48 hours.
The news story was about the death of a child during delivery for want of proper medical care.
The report had also mentioned the absence of a gynaecologist and an anaesthetist at the district hospital.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the Health Minister said that a gynaecologist and an anaesthetist were posted at Tamenglong district hospital on September 17.If they have still not reported for duty then fitting action will be taken up, he assured.
The Minister has given 48 hours to the Health Commissioner to submit his report and if any lapses are found, then heads will roll, he added.
Stating that numerous complaints have been received about doctors not reporting for duty when posted in the hill and interior parts of the State, the Minister said that he has received reports that 9 doctors transferred to Kumbi PHC have still not reported for duty.
