Rich tributes were paid to Hijam Irabot during a simple and solemn function organized at UCM office today in connection with the 108th birth anniversary of the pioneering leader.
Representatives of various organizations and noted personalities were present during the function.
Speaking at the occasion, UCM president Sapamcha Jadumani said the patriotism of Irabot and the sacrifices made by him for the sake of his people and motherland would remain etched in golden letters.Calling upon the people to follow the path of unity and fraternity shown by Irabot, Jadumani said that philosophy and ideals of Irabot is becoming more relevant today.
The fact that more and more social organizations and local clubs have started observing his birth and death anniversary shows the timelessness of his philosophy and ideals, Jadumani observed.
He is becoming the beacon in a dark and murky night, he added.
If the people of Manipur could not translate his ideals into action and emulate the sacrificial spirit, the soul of Irabot would be able to rest in peace, UCM president further said.
Floral tributes: Floral tributes were paid today to the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for sake of territorial integrity of Manipur during the agitation against extension of NSCN (I-M)-Government of India ceasefire to Manipur.
A memorial prayer service was organized at the Great June Uprising Memorial complex, Kekrupat.
The relatives of the martyrs and representatives of various organizations offered floral tributes to the martyrs and observed two minutes silence.
The memorial service which is being organized as part of Langban Tarpon, would continue till October 14.
