Though the state has been observation Vanmahotsav programme every year for the many years, it seems meaningless to the replenishing of forest stoke due to the lack of a government definite policy related with afforestation.
The programme remains a failure in the state as no remarkable result seen coming up till date.
Government had spent money in terms of lakhs in planting tree saplings across the state.
But the department concerned fails to check for the growth of the planted sapling.
The department has any programme for nurturing the planted saplings.
An official source from the state Forest Department disclosed that in the current financial year 2010-11, as a part of vanmahotsav programme, government had sanctioned a huge amount to plant 26 species of tree saplings in different places of the state.
In all 8,96,500 tree saplings had been distributed to 10 forest divisions across the state and seven centres established to implement the programme.
Some of the tree species to be planted through the programme include acacia auricuto formis, albizzia procera, amoora rohitruka, bombax ceiba, bauhinia veriegata, delonix regia, tamarindus indica, terminalia chebula,
etc.
After the plantation of the tree saplings, any of the officials of the department visited or look after the saplings except some people look after at their own interest, the source revealed.
