State and Central security forces have arrested nine persons, including a foreign national from various parts of the state and beyond in the past few days.
A statement issued by SSP (Imphal West) L Kailun said district police commandos and 39 Assam Rifles personnel arrested a PLA activist from Maharabi Lamkhai near waiting shed, from whom one 9 mm pistol with magazine and three lives rounds, one leather bag containing Rs 30 and a mobile phone handset have been recovered.
Identifying the arrested person as Moirangthem Sudeep alias Deep alias Alex (30 s/o (L) M Nabakumar Singh of Uripok Ningthoukhongjam Leikai, the SSP release stated Sudeep joined RPF/PLA in January 2003 through M Eshing Chaoba alias Chaoba and was working in finance section under the command of Manglem of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
Sudeep, who was arrested by Imphal West commandos in August 2003 before rejoining the outfit in March 2010 was reportedly involved in collection of huge money from businessmen/shopkeepers of Imphal areas.
The SSP also informed that district police commandos and troops 26 and 39 Assam Rifles arrested three KYKL activists from their respective houses at about 3 am today.
The three have been identified as Loitongbam Basant alias Tampakcha (35) s/o (L) L Gunador Singh of Lalambung Makhong; Aribam Thoi alias Merachandra (28) s/o A Nandeshor Sharma of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai; and Yumnam Naoba alias Swami (27) s/o Y Kesho Singh of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.
A police source also disclosed that a cadre of the KCP outfit has been netted from Guwahati by Assam Rifles at around 3.25 pm today.
The KCP cadre identified as Soibam Ramesh alias Ramen was picked up from a Paltan Bazar location along with a computer set and incriminating documents.
On the otherhand, troops of Maratha LI, 28 Assam Rifles and 29 AR effected arrest of one cadre of the PULF (Rafiq) group besides apprehending a foreign national in between July 26 and today.
A PRO IGAR (S) release said that MLI troops along with 28 AR personnel launched joint operation at Lilong Khunou area during which the PULF cadre namely Anis Khan alias Mani (21) s/o (L) Abdul Raffiq of Lilong Khunou was arrested at around 12.25 am of July 29 .
one 9 mm pistol, two live rounds and one Nokia handset have been recovered from the individual, the PRO added.
Regarding capture of the foreigner, the PRO release stated that 29 AR troops intercepted a vehicle at RCC Track junction on July 26 and detained a person who interrogation led to the revelation that he was a Myanmarese national and an Ayurvedic doctor by profession, but without any valid documents.
The individual has been identified as one M Chortan (60) s/o (L) Chomiya of Mintha village in Tamu district of Myanmar.
Meanwhile, an PIB (DW) release has informed that two cadres of the Hmar Peoples' Convention (HPC) have been arrested by the Army from Bara Arkap village in southern Dima Hasao district on July 28 besides recovering large quantity of arms and ammunition.
Identifying the two as Thanga Theak of Haflong and J Lalzarza of Bara Arkap, the release said Theak was a local area commander of the group.
The Army authorities also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one rifle, three grenades and more than 300 rounds of ammunition from the area, where operations are still on.
Pointing out that HPC group is in ceasefire in Manipur and its cadres are restricted to a camp in Churachandpur district, the PIB release said 'the group is also believed to be involved in the recent blasts on July 21 at Haflong, Mahur and Harangajao'.
The two cadres were involved in tax collection in the area and also in coordinating movement of militants in the district, the press release issued by PRO PIB (DW).
