Barely two hours after attending a function to improve the infrastructure of a Community Health Centre at Sagolmang today, NCP MLA Thokchom Navakumar, representing Khundrakpam AC passed away at about 4.30 pm after suffering a massive stroke.
He was 65 and is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.

Before the fateful stroke, the MLA attended a function pertaining to the improvement of a Community Health Centre at Sagolmang.
A health team led by Dr Suresh tried to revive him but as his condition was critical he was rushed to RIMS hospital and was admitted to the ICU.
The doctors proclaimed him dead at about 4.30 pm.
As news spread, Chief Minister O Ibobi and his Cabinet colleagues including Gaikhangam, Ph Parijat and a host of MLAs including Dr N Bijoy, N Loken, N Biren and K Ranjit rushed to RIMS.
Though the Chief Minister refused to meet the media at RIMS, Gaikhangam expressed shock and sorrow over the demise of the MLA.
"It was so unexpected.
His death has left a big vacuum.
We pray to God that his soul may rest in peace," said Gaikhangam.
Navakumar who earlier lost twice in the Assembly election from Khundrakpam AC was finally elected to the 9th Assembly as an NCP candidate.
The election was held during the second phase on February 27.Before plunging into politics, Navakumar served as the Joint Director of School Education and retired as the Director of SCERT.
Born at Keishampat, he later shifted to Sagolmang in 1982 permanently.
Amid tearful scenes, the mortal remains of the MLA was taken to his Keishampat residence where it would be kept till tomorrow.
The last rites will be performed at Sagolmang tomorrow.
Significantly, the State unit president of the NCP, Radhabinod Koijam is presently at Delhi.
The CPI expressed deep shock and sorrow over the demise of the MLA.
An emergency meeting was held today at CPI, said a statement and added that the party shares the grief and pain of the family.
The meeting was chaired by Ph Parijat.
