Imphal, October 23:
The season of exposing corruption is far from over, kudos to the Ukhrul district NGOs for opening the floodgate.
Speculations of misutilisation of money meant for the repairing of I.T.Road and other roads in Tamenglong district have been going on for sometime now but Federal Party of Manipur MLA from Tamenglong A/C Samuel Jendai affirmed he could furnish full documents in this regard.
In an exclusive interview with Newmai News Network at his official bungalow, MLA Samuel Jendai said that Rs 66, 94,717 meant for repairing IT road had been withdrawn without executing the assignment.
Jendai said that the said amount was first transferred from Tamenglong PWD division to Senapati PWD division before the concerned persons withdrew the money.
Proving his point by furnishing documents, the MLA said this huge amount was sanctioned to repair the IT road which connects Imphal with Tamenglong via Tamei and Kangpokpi.
The MLA further produced another document of which about Rs 25,00000 had been withdrawn without any work, Rs 15,04,004 meant for repairing Tamenglong-Khongsang road withdrawn on February 17 this year under cheque number 028182.Another amount of Rs 7,48,075 meant for improving roads in Tamenglong headquarters had been withdrawn on the same day and the cheque number said to be 028181.Moreover, another sum of Rs 4,18,557 meant for improving sub-divisional roads in Tamenglong district had been withdrawn on 17/2/04 and the cheque number for this amount is 028183.The MLA also said that Rs 30,00000 had been withdrawn without doing work which was meant for improving Nungbi to Longpi road.
The Federal Party MLA also stated that Rs 6 crores to Rs 7 crores amount work order had been issued for the Bishnupur to Rengpang road but till date the work still remains to be executed and speculated the amount might have been siphoned off elsewhere.
Jendai expressed apprehension that these persons who are involved in corruption activities may have found accesses to funds of the Home Ministrys special package - Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojna - sanctioned for Tamenglong district only when GK Pillai was the Joint Union Home Secretary.
The MLA said that under this scheme Rs 15 crores each would be released for three consecutive years which will then add to the total amount of Rs 45 crores.
He added that the Pillai package would be coming soon to the district.
For the improvement of Tamenglong Hospital certain amount was sanctioned but Rs 2 lakhs meant for improvement of X-ray block had been withdrawn without executing any work for the block, said MLA.
He said that the money was withdrawn on 31/3/2004 and the cheque number for this amount is C-837913.Turning to Ukhrul dist the MLA said that huge amount of money ranging between Rs.80-90 lakhs from the Non-Plan Fund which was supposed to be utilized in the Ukhrul PWD had been withdrawn in the month of July 2003.
