Besides approving fresh appointment of 459 Manipur Police constables a marathon session of the SPF Cabinet resolved to relax ban on fresh appointment in the police Department.
The State Cabinet also decided to promote five IAS officers currently discharging duties as Secretaries to Commissioner level.
According to press source, the meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh decided to fill up 137 posts of police constables and new enrolment of 322 other personnel to attain prescribed strength of 459.In a clear reflection of strengthening law enforcing agencies to combat insurgency problems, the meeting that began from 5 pm and continued till late evening endorsed requisite procedure to fill 295 vacant post of IRB men during recruitment process for raising the fourth battalion of IRB, final results of which is still awaited.
Significantly, as per the Cabinet decision, the new enrolment of security personnel envisages recruitment of around 70 UG surrenderee.
Mention may be made that due to necessity of filling up vacant Manipur Rifles post following adjustment from the IRB fresh recruitment had to be conducted to meet the security strength.
Among the IAS officers promoted to the rank of Commissioners from Secretaries are Binod Kispota, S Jerol, Dr Rajesh Kumar, L Haokip and C Kipgen.
Post elevation/pay scale enhancement of 16 other IAS officers was also endorsed by the Cabinet session.
While deferring the part time lecturers' issue for the next Cabinet meeting today's session agreed on direct recruitment of Government college principals through the Manipur Public Service Commission to fill the current gap of 20 posts, informed the source.
