Imphal, October 23:
Following an understanding between All Manipur Petroleum Transporters Association and authorities concerned, sixty oil tankers crossed Senapati district to procure fuel from Assam without any security escort this afternoon at around 3.30.The Govt had earlier assured to provide security escort to the tankers but backed off late last night despite making necessary arrangement initially.
The tankers however agreed to go without the escorts in the interest of the public who are facing acute shortage of fuel.
The tankers would continue service tomorrow also.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers' Union have also decided to call off its over one month agitation and resume service from tomorrow.
The decision to take the wheels was taken following the release of its two abducted members including vice president by KRA cadres after one month in captivity.
