Assam Rifles have begun to extend full cooperation to the police investigation in connection with one of the two FIRs registered pertaining to the death of Thangjam Manorama Devi, Officer in charge of Irilbung PS told The Sangai Express.
OC of the same police station Gunindro Singh is the investigating officer (IO) in the FIR lodged by the Assam Rifles while the other FIR was registered by another IO of the same PS following a complaint filed by Th Dolendro younger brother of Manorama.
So far OC Gunindro has examined as many as 13 witnesses of 17 AR including two major rank officials since the examination began on October 18 at his Irilbung office premises.
On October 18 the OC recorded statements of three personnel, who had appended their signature on the seizure memo.
Though the OC declined to name the 13 witnesses, he said they are the key witnesses as far as the arrest and subsequent killing of Manorama is concerned.
Stating that the total number of AR personnel who had carried out the operation in arresting Manorama is 33, the OC also disclosed that all the personnel would be examined in due course of time.
Mention may be made here that the AR authorities had earlier declined to cooperate with the police investigation in the case.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Thangjam Manorama Death Inquiry Commission examined SDPO of Porompat PS and a constable of Imphal West District police identified as Sarat today.
The examination of ASI Nongyai of Irilbung PS was completed yesterday.
On October 26, the State sponsored probe panel would continue examining Dr S Joychandra Singh, Additional Director of the State Forensic Laboratory Pangei.
