Imphal, May 22 2012:
The Zeliangrong United Front has said it would work for the unification of the two parallel Zeliangrong apex bodiesZeliangrong Union and Zeliangrong Baudi while seeking cooperation from the people towards this end.
In a statement issued by the joint secretary of ZUF, A Remroi, the outfit strongly warned that any group or individual who refused to pay heed to the unity call of the outfit would be considered as anti-people, anti-Zeliangrong and appropriate actions would be taken against them.
While appreciating the good works of Zeliangrong frontal organisations, the ZUF, formed with a solemn pledge to protect the rights and resources of Zeliangrong, Inpui, Chiru, Kom and kindred tribes and also to foster Zeliangrong unity and integrity, observed that the civil societies have miserably failed in many areas like existence of two parallel apex bodies in the form of ZU and ZB .
Further, stating that issuing of contradictory statement from Zeliangrong civil societies on tribe issue was a matter of concern, the ZUF observed that the contradictory statements had done great damages to the reputation of the Zeliangrong community which thereby reflects that the tribe recognition was done without proper consultation among the Zeliangrong people and frontal organisations.
The ZUF statement further reminded that hasty decision to get separate tribe recognition without taking consensus is bound to have thrown the people into complete confusion while adding that those who bring the damages should bear the responsibility for the sorry state of affairs.
Appealing all Zeliangrong civil society organisations to come together to sort out the difference, the ZUF statement called for initiating the process of modification/rectification and to incorporate Zeliangrong or any other appropriate nomenclature which would include Inpui for the collective name and identity.
Cautioning that any obstacle to it would be considered anti-people and anti-Zeliangrong, the ZUF pledged that the Zeliangrong people cannot and should not be fragmented in any manner as they are bound by indestructible bond, of blood relationship, common origin, culture and history.
