Imphal, August 20 2009:
Following prolonged imposition of curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East districts since August 4, in the aftermath of mass public protest over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, as well as blockade and chakka bandh along the National Highways and general strike in both the hills and the valley district, the remaining stock of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) and LPG in the State is said to be at a 'critical' level.
According to an official source, the General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in Manipur yesterday wrote to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gases explaining that transportation of petroleum products in the State has been prevented on account of the
prevailing unsettling situation.
The remaining stock of LPG in the State would last only 2 days, ATF for 9 days, petrol for 14 days, diesel for 13 days and kerosene oil for 22 days.
In connection with depleting stock of petroleum products in the State, IOC had also communicated with the State Government yesterday.
It may be noted here that none of the trucks carrying rice allocated under PDS item by the IFC is also coming to Manipur for a long time.
