Following a written intimation from Gauhati High Court, that there would be certain difficulties for a sitting Judge to conduct the Judicial enquiry ordered by the State Government into the Khwairamband killing of July 23, the State Government has opted for a retired Judge.
A decision to this effect was adopted during a meeting of Cabinet Ministers and the Chief Minister held today.
Subsequently, the Advocate General has been despatched to Guwahati to commission a retired Judge and initiate inquiry at the earliest, conveyed a source.
On the other hand, with regard to the application lodged at City Police station by Ch Sanjit's mother for taking up a case in connection with the killing of her son on July 23 at Khwairamband market, Gauhati High Court has directed the State Government to inform whether police has taken up the case or not.
A reply is to be submitted by August 25.The directive was issued by a Division Bench comprising of Justices Maibam Binoykumar and Mutum Binoykumar after hearing a writ petition praying for registration of a police case against the police commandos involved in the killing of Sanjit.
Earlier, Sanjit's mother Taratombi filed an application at City Police on August 7 to take up a case in connection with the killing of her son.
According to the petitioner's counsel, Advocate Khaidem Mani, the respondents of the Division Bench's directive are the Chief Secretary, the DGP, SSP Imphal West and the OC of City police station.
In addition to instructing the State police to take up a case in connection with the killing, the petition also prayed that the CBI be asked to investigate the killing and the Gauhati High Court keep to keep a tab on the progress of the case.
