Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today inspected the construction site of the proposed National Institute of Technology (NIT) the foundation stone of which was laid symbolically inside Kangla by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his recent visit to the State.
Taking serious note of the encroachment at Leishangkhong Hiren Khongnung houses, shops, oil pump, etc have come up, the Chief Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East for taking up necessary measures for evicting the illegal structures by issuing an order under Section IV of the relevant Land Acquisition Act within two-three days.

The State Government is planning to acquire around 250 acres of land from Kiyamgei Loukon situated just beyond Kiyamgei Pal Ahanbi for the purpose of construction of the proposed National Institute of Technology.
The Chief Minister also given instruction to the Deputy Commissioner for doing the needful in this regard so that the construction work may commence soon.
Taking serious note of illegal structures like houses, hotels, shops, oil pump, etc being coming up all along the way from Leishangkhong Hiren to Lilong Bridge, the Chief Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner to issue an order under Section IV of the Land Acquisition Act so as to evict these illegal structures within two-three days.
The Chief Minister made it clear that Rs 5 crores have already been sanctioned by the Centre for the development of historic Chandranadi river and Leishangkhong Hiren under Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
