Even as the Naga civil societies have been working against time appealing to all underground outfits to stop resorting internecine killings, a man believed to be a NSCN-IM cadre was killed by suspected rival cadres at Kohima, reports NNN.
The body of the cadre was recovered today from the outskirts of Kohima.
The exact time of the killing is not known.
The bullet riddled body of the suspected NSCN-IM cadre was found on the Bypass Road, about 2 km away from the Bypass Check gate this afternoon.
The deceased later identified as 'ss' Corpl H Romeo Paomai bore four bullet marks on the neck, back, left arm and left leg and was reported to have fell in the hands of the rival NSCN-K cadres after a hot chase.
Kohima police believed that the deceased was not alone when the incident took place as two black rug-sacks containing personal accessories such as blankets, tooth brushes and paste and other clothing including a camouflage jacket bearing the NSCN-IM badge was recovered from the vicinity of the incident.
One of the bags is said to be the belonging of the deceased as his name was found inscribed inside the bag.
According to sources, the assailants from the rival NSCN-K took away an AK assault rifle along with ammunition after killing the NSCN-IM cadre.
In another separate incident, suspected armed cadres of NSCN-K ambushed a group of cadres belonging to rival NSCN-IM who were travelling in a white Maruti Gypsy near the KMC damping site in Kohima today.
The attackers opened fire at the speeding vehicle which later turned turtle.
However, the occupants of the vehicle seemed to have escaped.
