Like in other parts of the globe World Consumer Rights Day was observed today with Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department (CAF&PD) hosting the State level observance function at Maharaja Bodhchandra College, Palace Compound.
As chief guest of the function, Commissioner (CAF&PD) Y Thamkishore Singh highlighted that objective of the global event is to make the consumers aware about their rights.
Tracing origin of the observance to United States of America in the early 1960s, he said to ensure that every citizen have access to quality and standard food grains laws have been enacted to pull up and punish those indulging in black-marketing or adulteration of essential commodities.
Thamkishore also called upon the public to informed official concerned about any irregularities in the sale and distribution of food grain so that prompt punitive action could be initiated against the guilty parties.
The observance function also attended by Manipur State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission member Ph Surendra Singh and CAF&PD Director M Yaiskul Meetei had advocate Dr Ch Narendra Singh former DM College of Science Principal G Tomba Sharma and Assistant Controller of Weights and Measures (Legal Metrology) L Nripendra Singh elaborating on the observance as the resource persons.
