Imphal, February 14 2011:
For the 5th time, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute has successfully performed yet another surgery-replantation of hand on a patient whose left wrist was totally cut off at the joint.
According to a statement issued by Executive-Business Development of the Institute, Premkumar today, the patient identified as Khaidem Warjit Singh (25) of Mayang Imphal was allegedly assaulted with a sharp weapon inflicting multiple wounds all over his body including total amputation on his left wrist joint at around 12.30 pm on February 5 at a remote paddy field.
After getting first aid from a local health centre, he was brought to Shija Hospitals, Langol at around 3.40 pm on the same day.
Replantation procedure could not be started immediately as his blood pressure was not recordable because of torrential bleeding from the wound at the time of injury.
However, his amputated hand was immediately preserved in the cold storage at 4 degree Celsius and five units of blood were transfused.
