SBI launches first Kiosk Bank

For the first time in the state, the State Bank of India (SBI) has launched kiosk banking service at Luwangshangbam today.
This initiative is the first of its kind in the state and is aimed at providing banking facilities to the villagers, said Nongmaithem Nandarani, Regional Correspondent SBI Drishtee Alliance speaking at the launching function.
In the country, kiosk banking has brought banking facilities at the doorstep of families living in the remotest of villages.
The villagers now need not go to a far off bank for opening a bank account.
They can open their bank account with the kiosk banking opens in their village.
Deposit Account holders can deposit or withdraw money from this initiative.
Most of the facilities providing by a bank can be availed from this initiative, she added.
The roll out initially wishes to open no frill savings bank accounts through a biometric finger print recognition system, Nandarani asserted.
A total of 150 persons have so far opened their accounts through kiosk banking.
Out of them 15 are from Luwangshangbam where the new banking system was opened today.
Chief general manager RK Garg of SBI, LHO NE-Circle Guwahati, general manager BJ Sharma attended as chief guest and guest of honour of the launching function presided by pradhan of Luwangshangbam gram panchayat.
Assistant general manager, SBI LHO, Anjali Lyndem and many other officials of the SBI were also present at the function.
Shivachandra, a social worker said the facilities will make it easier for villagers to avail of loans.
On the occasion, loans to 20 working women of the village were distributed.
Officials of the SBI-Drishtee Alliance said that loans to women vendors of Kwairamband will also be distributed at the earliest.
