Imphal, September 10:
The Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) has demanded a clarification from the NSCN (IM) on whether extortion notices have been served to chiefs of Kuki villages situated at Senapati and Thoubal districts.
speaking to media-persons somewhere in Senapati district today KLAs technical headquarters commander Bryan Kuki said the outfit had come across annual tax demand notices being served on the GPRN letter heads and demanded clarification on whether the letter-heads are genuine or not.
He also produced the typed demand notes addressed to village chiefs of Kuki villages located in between Senapati and Thoubal districts signed by one JS Aring setting deadline of August 29 to cough up Rs 140 each from every household.
Demanding further clarification on whether the tax notices have been served with the approval of the NSCN (IM)s higher authorities, the KLA urged the former to withdraw the extortion notes as it has the potential to renew the Naga-Kuki conflict of yesteryears which had claimed the lives of many and rendered many homeless.
