With the by election to the Konthoujam Assembly Constituency drawing near, the Opposition parties have zeroed in on a nominee of the Manipur People�s Party (MPP) to project him as the consensus candidate of the Opposition parties.
However the Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to formally give its consent as its State president and other leaders are presently away at Delhi.
The MPP nominee is Konthoujam Ranbir, said sources adding that the decision to project him as the Opposition candidate was taken during a meeting of the All Political Parties Forum of the Opposition held today at the official residence of MPP MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
Representatives of the FPM, MPP, DRPP, BJP, MNC, TNC and JD (U) were present at the meeting.
The BJP is likely to take a final decision on Sunday when a meeting is scheduled.
The meeting will also discuss the visit of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and its impact as well as the present law and order situation in the State.
