Three VLCPC at GP level formed

Three Village Level Child Protection Committee (VLCPC) were constituted at a stakeholder consultation meeting with District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Imphal West, and World Vision India Imphal West Area Develop Programme conducted on July 10 at 9:00 am at the office premises of Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat, Mekola.
The meeting was jointly organized by DCPU Imphal West and World Vision- Imphal West ADP under the backdrop of upgrading the CPUs to VLCPC status initiated by World Vision India, a statement has informed.
During the course of the meeting, three VLCPC at 3 different GPs namely, Kodompokpi, Lairenjam Meijrao and Malom, were formed under the guideline of DCPU-Imphal West.
It may be noted that each committee comprises of 12 members as per the guidelines issued by the authority concerned to include the respective Pradhan, 2 children, 2 teachers, 2 ANM, 1 ASHA, 1 AWW, 1 CBO/NGO, 1 PwD, and 1 DCPU.

The meeting was chaired by Th Nandakumar Singh, Pradhan Kodompokpi GP; T Manglemba Singh, Pradhan, Lairenjam Meijro GP and L Ingocha Singh, Pradhan, Malom GP.
Delivering the keynote address Doren Heisnam, Coordinator Development Facilitation-World Vision India said crimes against children have emerged as one of the significant challenges in the State of Manipur.
It is essentially the need of the hour to evolve a new mechanism and strategies to address these crimes, he said.
During the meeting, District Child Protection Officer, Y Indramani presented an outline of the existing mechanisms of VLCPC and the guidelines of Mission Vatsalya.
He further said that VLCPC is the only platform at the village level that can voice and address all these child-related issues.
Before reporting to the police station, people should get in touch with first to child line (1098), and then all requirement proceedings will be delivered by child line officials.
He also addressed some protective mechanisms, child sponsorship programs (ICPS), and child adoption.
Finally, he appealed to all the members to be vigilant and aim for a strong functional VLCPC so that the three Gram Panchayats will become a role model.

The meeting was attended by 36 officials from PRI, District Child Protection Unit Imphal West, World Vision India-Imphal West ADP, NGOs, CBOs, teachers, ASHA, AWW, ANM (GNM), Mekola Leimakol and differently able persons, and children clubs.
