Awareness on 'War on Drugs' mission held

As part of War on Drug 2.0 mission of the government, the office of Walnut Development Officer of Horticulture and Soil Conservation (WDO/H&SC), Tengnoupal district organised a one-day district level awareness programme on 'Cultivation of horticulture crops as an alternative to poppy cultivation in hill areas' at Phalbung Junior High School complex on Sunday.
Tengnoupal deputy commissioner Mannuamching and WDO/H&SC Lenin Khwairakpam were respectively chief guest and was functional president of the programme which was also attended by Tengnoupal PS sub-inspector Ashem Biren Singh, AO (H & HC) Dr AK Somorjit Singh and Phaibung village chief Lunkhomang Haokip as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Mannuamching appealed to the people to stop poppy plantation and warned of taking action against any village chief found giving land for pop py plantation.
She also said that the state government initiated steps to stop poppy cultivation only to save humans.
Those doing drug business might have constructed big buildings but none of them live happily in life and God will punish them one day.
Lenin Khwairakpam also appealed to participants of the programme to shoulder responsibility in making Tengnoupal a poppy free district.
He then urged the village chiefs to stop poppy cultivation for the sake of future generation.
The awareness programme was attended by chiefs of Loikong, Khudei Khulen, Khudei, Laipham and other villages.
