Unidentified gunmen sneaked into an elderly man�s bedroom and shot him dead yesterday night a Mana Ingkhol Anta village located under Porompat police station of Imphal East district.
The deceased has been identified as one Md Nazakhat Ali (50) who rents out rickshaws by running a garage and based on family member�s contention there are no previous cases of Ali having strained relationship with any body.
The family members also narrated that Ali had retired to bed which he shares with his two teenaged sons - Akham (13) and Kaklu (12).Ali's death came to light when the younger son informed other family elders at around 6.30 am of his father bleeding from the nose.
The deceased bore a bullet injury near the right ear lobe and the projectile was later found inside the pillow.
Family members and nearby residents reported of hearing a cracker like sound at around 11.30 pm amid torrential rainfall.
Police are however yet to come to a final conclusion on the incident as they have started questioning the viability of the sons, said to be sleeping with the deceased father, not hearing the gun shot.
Registering a case on the matter, Porompat police have begun a probe, said a police source while informing to the body will be handed over to family members on completion of medical procedure.
Meanwhile, the identities of the four persons gunned down at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi yesterday night have been established while another CRPF personnel who sustained bullet injuries in the October 1 ambush at Churachandpur district�s Geljang area succumbed to his injuries today.
The four killed by unidentified gunmen have been identified as Thokchom Lukhoi alias Ingocha (24) of Kyamgei Lairou Wangma, Takhellambam Rabi (24) of Kyamgei Mayai Leikai, Thongbam Kirankumar alias Naoba (26) of Kakwa Thongbam Leikai and Yumnam Opendro (24) of Langathel Awang Leikai.
The four were brought the Mayai Koibi and shot dead.
Of the four killed, Th Kirankumar is said to be married and left behind two daughters.
Family sources informed that Kirankumar left home yesterday evening to hire a video cassette from Singjamei area.
Rabi, Opendra and Lukhoi are said to be actively involved in galvanizing students intending to appear in National Institute of Open School examinations.
Family members of all the four deceased rejected speculations that they might be connected with underground Organization on ground that they had never left home.
In the meantime the CRPF personnel who failed to respond to treatment at Shija Hospital, Langol and died today morning at around 5.40 has been identified as constable Md Abash alias Salim (26) of Golapati in Imphal East district.
Salim was admitted to the private hospital after receiving a gunshot wound at the head during ambush by underground activists.
