Imphal, October 05:
Pointing out lack of adequate health care facilities in Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Students Union, Tousem Area (ZSUTA) has denounced the apathetic attitude of the Government towards the plight of the people living in the district.
In a statement, ZSUTA convenor Bh Haimasuang pointed out that many cases of death have been reported from interior places like Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions because of malaria and other unknown diseases.
In the absence of health care facilities, the people are compelled to depend on the local Maibas and Maibis, who do not have any scientific knowledge for treatment of those patients, he said.
Although 11 doctors are reported to have been post-ed at Tamenglong district hospital and other health centres, some of them have not yet to join duty at their respective place of posting, he informed.
The death of one infant at the time of delivery at Tamenglong District Hospital is a clear evidence of absence of Gynaecologist, Anaesthetist and operation facilities, he observed.
Lack of proper road communication connecting interior areas with the district headquarters is another problems that add to the agonies of the poor villagers when they fall sick, he added.
Moreover, incessant rainfall for the last 2 to 3 months in the hill area has washed away all the suspension bridges over the Barak and the Magui rivers compelling the villagers to remain stuck up in their own respective villages, he said.
Informing that a delegation of some NGOs and student leaders had made a quick survey of the affected areas by flood, famine, epidemic, etc in the month of September, ZSUTA convenor noted that there is an urgent need for taking up remedial measures to relieve the villagers from their difficulties.
Memo submitted: The joint action demand committee of local boards and public leaders of Senapati and Tamenglong district has submitted a memorandum to Outer Parliamentary MP Mani Charenamei urging him for taking up steps for constructing a State link to connect the two districts.
Since independence, the people of the region remained cut off from the rest of the country without any linkage road till date the memorandum noted.
