Despite the Government's decision to close down all the sick public sector undertakings, a reliable source has informed that the Govt has decided to inject fresh life into the Manipur State Road Transport Corporation and has taken up certain plans and strategies for its revival.
Commenting on the strategy adopted for reviving the MSRTC, the source disclosed that the Govt would be selling the MSRTC plot at Mantripukhri estimated to be worth around Rs 9.25 crores.
The said amount would then be used for clearing the pending salaries of its employees which is estimated to be about Rs 4 crores and the remaining money would be utilized in buying buses for the corporation so that normal functioning of the corporation can resume.
Out of the 302 employees currently employed by the MSRTC, the source added that 64 employees would be absorbed into the Home Dept and another 78 employees into the Transport Dept before March next.
Meanwhile talking to The Sangai Express, Minister of State for Transport and Science & Technology, S Natum informed that steps to revive the Corporation would be put into motion soon a thorough discussion with the Chief Minister.
He also informed that the plot of the MSRTC would be bought by the Department of Science and Technology for the development of a Software Technology Park.
It may be mentioned here that the recent State Cabinet meeting had decided to close down the Manipur Cement Corporation and the Manipur Cycle Corporation.
