Imphal, January 03:
At the beginning of the new year, the Governor of Manipur, Ved Prakash Marwah visited the BP Paul Mentally Retarded Home, Mongsangei; the Ch Ibohal Institute for Mentally Retarded School Changangei, Uchekon and Children Home, Dewlahland this morning and distributed sweets to their inmates, says a press release issued by Raj Bhavan.
In his brief address at each of these institutions, Marwah wished the students and the staff a very happy new year.
While expressing joy at meeting them, he thanked the organizers for their devotion in running these institutions.
He said that the strength of a society is judged by how its members look after the less privileged and marginalized sections of the society, particularly the children and the handicapped.
Instead of becoming a burden on the society, they should be given education and training so that they not only become self-reliant but also to the development of the society, the release says.
Stating that Manipur has a glorious tradition of social service, he expressed the hope that this tradition will not only continue but further grow.
Continued violence in Manipur has resulted in the increasing number of handicapped persons.
