A head constable of CI Post Kwakta, BSP was shot dead by two persons who came on bicycle near Imam Masjid Kwakta Bazar this morning at 8.45 am, according to a source.
The deceased identified as Shyamlal Chakravarty (39) of West Bengal along with two others who belonged to intelligence staff were on duty when two unidentified youths who came on bicycle fired at the head constable, killng him on the spot.
The victim received bullet injury marks in the right rib, left chest and back side of the body, sources said.
After the incident, the youths managed to escape in an NV scooter leaving behind the bicycle at Pangal Lamkhai.
Local residents reportedly heard about ten rounds of gunshots reportedly fired by BSF personnel, the release also said.
The 33 Battalion CI Post conducted search operation at different areas in between Khuman and Sevla, beat up some persons including Kwakta Gram Panchayat Moirang CD Block member, Md Abdul Ghani (35), Zahiruddin (23) member Gram Panchayat Ward no II.
They received serious injuries.
While conducting search operation, the BSF personnel also arrested four persons, identified as Md Abdul Haq (45), Shopkeeper, Tamirjur (35), farmer, Jubay Begum (35) and Md Abungo (30) councillor, Terakhopg.
All the injured and arrested persons were the residents of Sevla.
A team of journalists who wanted to meet the CO, 33 Battalion CI Post waited about thirty minutes at the gate however, the CO left the post without paying attention to them.
