Imphal, September 29 2012:
Asking medical personnel of Primary Health Sub Centres to ensure regular attendance and diligent discharge of duty, Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) today declared that it would close monitor functioning of these medical centres.
Speaking to reporters at its head office after an inspection visit to Urup Salanpham PHSC, MSF vice presidents Md Serazuddin and A Boinao asserted that higher authorities would be apprised to initiate punitive action against any PHSC personnel found derelicting his/her duty.
Regarding the Urup medical centre, Serazuddin said information has been received about 11 medical personnel, including five local ASHA volunteers, enlisted as staff of the said PHSC.
Inspite of the staff strength, the PHSC was found locked and the compound resembled a neglected site as no fencing was constructed, said the MSF functionary while quoting locals as saying that the lone PHSC doctor shows up only about once in a month.
The locals did not even know what the doctor's name is, he said.
In case of medical attention, Urup Salanpham citizens either consult doctors of Lilong or Keirao PHSCs.
Serazuddin further informed that MSF has report about Urup Salanpham PHSC getting regular supply of medicines from the state Government in addition to receiving monthly amount of Rs 20,000 under the national Rural health Mission.
Asserting that MSF will continue to visit PHSCs to assess functioning and service being provided to the citizens, Serazuddin and Boinao drew the attention of the medical department's higher authorities to ensure that medical personnel execute their assigned tasks.
