Imphal, September 29 2012:
People in the state consider our "talented doctors" as second to God and keep faith on them; however, they lack dedication in their service to the people, Home Minister Gaikhangam has observed while inaugurating the 2-day long Annual Conference of ISA (Indian Society of Anesthesiologists), Manipur State Branch at Jubilee Hall of RIMS on Saturday.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Gaikhangam said that in the entire North-East, the infrastructure and equipments available for medical and health care in the state is remarkable and doctors are talented but due to the lack of dedication, people have lost their confidence on our doctors.
As a result, a large number of people are going outside the state for medical treatment.
Furthermore, he noted that opening or working at clinics distracted the attention of the doctors from serving the people properly.
Instead of doing side businesses, if doctors in the state fully utilize their knowledge and experience, Manipur could become a hub for medical and health care.
The government is also planning to open a PG course for Anesthesiologist at JNIMS, he added.
Highlighting the importance of Anesthesiologists, MLA of Khurai A/C Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, who attended the function as Guest of Honour, said that the success of operation conducted by surgeons largely depends on the contribution made by Anesthesiologists.
However, there is an acute shortage of Anesthesiologists in the entire North East region and it is high time to develop modern working operation theaters at district level hospitals as well.
During the function, Dr.Anjan Datta, President, ISA and Gaikhangam released the CME Book and a souvenir respectively.
Doctors from Manipur and other parts of the North Eastern states will address on various topics during the 2-day conference.
