Bomb Attack Prevention On SOG'S KEN Law and order to be discussed in UC meet today

TAKING SERIOUS note over the recent spate of bomb attacks by UG groups on security personnel, a meeting of the Strategic Operation Group (SOG), which was held today after a gap of 7 months, has decided to chalk out strategies for curbing the strength of UG groups operating in the state which otherwise are to be kept under control by security forces.
According to a reliable source, the meeting of SOG was convened in the conference hall of the office of Chief Secretary DS Poonia at State Secretariat at around 2 pm today.
Presided over by DS Poonia, the meeting was also attended by DGP Y Joykumar; IGAR (S) UK Gurung, GOC 57 Mountain Division Major General Binoy Poonen and other top officials of CRPF and BSF.
The meeting minutely discussed unabated bomb attacks carried out by certain UG groups not only on security personnel in the state but also on individuals over monetary demand.
The meeting of SOG has not been convened since the last general election in February.
In between this period, a number of bomb attack cases have occurred.
As many as 84 cases of bomb attacks since January 1 this year were taken up for discussion in the meeting today.
Though it was evident that most bomb attacks targeted certain individuals over monetary demands, the recent spate of bomb attacks on security personnel were noted and deliberated upon seriously, the source disclosed.
The meeting also resolved to build up good relation between different forces deployed in the state, to share intelligence inputs amongst each other, to strengthen security along international border (Indo-Burma) and to prevent smuggling of arms and ammunition from Myanmar to Manipur.
The discussions held in today's SOG meeting would also be taken up for further discussion in the meeting of Unified Command (UC) scheduled tomorrow at 3 pm.
The Chief Minister is the Chairman of UC while DGP Y Joykumar; UK Gurung, IGAR (S), Major General Binoy Poonen, GOC of 57 Mountain Division and IG of BSF and CRPF are members.
The meeting of the UC would mainly focused on prevailing law and order situation in the state and further strengthening of counter insurgency operations.
Prevention of smuggling in arms and ammunition from Myanmar to Manipur will also be discussed in the said meeting, the source informed.
The source further disclosed that the discussions made during the course of the SOG meeting was also further decided to be brought up in the meeting of the Unified Command (UC) which is scheduled to be held at 3 pm tomorrow.
