UG cadres held, explosives recovered

A team of Imphal West district police commandos arrested two PREPAK (Pro) cadres along with five lathod bombs packed inside empty plastic detergent jars yesterday.
Producing the arrested cadres before the media persons today at Commando Complex, DSP (Commando), Sarangthem Ibomcha said the two PREPAK (Pro) cadres were arrested from Singjamei Waikhom Leikai during an operation conducted yesterday morning.
The operation was carried out around 10.30 am yesterday based on specific information about the plan of the outfit to pass on explosive materials to its members in Singjamei area for use in attacking security forces in connection with the outfit's raising day, the DSP said.
The commando personnel detained two suspicious individuals who were riding in an Activa scooter and Kinetic Honda respectively for identification during the operation.

The two persons who were coming in two scooters were identified as Sarangthem Gourashyam (32) s/o Ibohal of Kakching Khunou, near Tampakyum LP School, and presently staying at a rented house in Kakwa Naorem Leikai near Narsingh Mandir; and Mayengbam Amarjit alias Mayamba (44) s/o Mangi of Singjamei Wangma Mongkhang Lambi.
Fifteen cans of Fuji (detergent paste) were recovered from Gourashyam in which five of the cans contained lathod bomb, Ibomcha said.
He added that the detergent jars were sent in a Maruti Van from Moreh by self styled Captain Koijam Deban alias Premcha alias Khamba of Khongman Mangjil Mamang Pat Leirak, who is presently staying at Moreh.
The explosives were handed over to Gourashyam and he was assigned to deliver them to Amarjit.
The DSP further claimed that Amarjit has been working under Deban for at least a year and was involved in collecting extortion money from Government offices and employees, and contractors.
Amarjit is also said to be the general secretary of Mongkhang Lambi Modern Club.
Three mobile handsets were also recovered from the two persons, he added.
