Distributors defy home delivery rate

Imphal, January 29 2016 : Although IOC and the Government have fixed a specific amount for home delivery of LPG refills, many LPG distributors have been charging different amounts as home delivery charge after ignoring the rate fixed by IOC.

The home delivery charge for one refill as fixed by IOC and the Government is Rs 18 .

Jemon Gas Chingamathak delivery some subsidised refills of 14.2 Kg capacity to consumers at Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai and each consumer was charged Rs 890 per refill.

The price for one refill of 14.2 Kg capacity which came into effect from January 1 this year is Rs 834 and this is inclusive of the home delivery charge which is Rs 18 .

If consumers take refills from distributors directly, the price is Rs 815/816 per refill.

Some consumers of Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai said that Jemon Gas Chingamathak has been charging them Rs 75 each for delivery of one refill.

Moreover, the delivery men refused to issue any receipt.

They also refused to give any authorization letter or document for charging Rs 75 .

Most people agree that the delivery charge of Rs 18 per refill fixed by the Government and IOC is too meagre.

At the same time, it remains a big question whether charging Rs 75 for delivery of one refill is reasonable enough or whether Jemon Gas Chingamathak has the authority to fix delivery charges it deems fit.

Incidentally, IOC has been working to further improve supply and distribution of LPG in the State.

Another joint meeting of the IOC, LPG sales officers, distributors and transporters was held yesterday.

The meeting discussed about enhancing bottling of LPG at Sekmai bottling plant without sparing even Sundays.

According to information received from IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office, State Level Coordinator, altogether 3060 numbers of refills (14.2 Kg) were bottled last Sunday.

This was 10 truck loads.

The meeting held yesterday discussed about bottling more than 10 truck loads on coming Sundays.

Moreover, new initiatives have been launched so that distributors can send trucks to Sekmai bottling plant for ferrying refills in time.
