PHFCL takes housing schemes to rural areas

Panthoibi Housing Finance Company Limited (PHFCL) is taking up steps to provide housing schemes and benefits to people of rural areas of the State by means of Credit Link Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) under the Pradhan Mantri Aawaj Yojna- Gramin scheme which aims to provide pucca or semi pucca house to all people by the year 2022 .
Speaking to media persons at his office at Uripok, PHFCL's chief managing director Th Hemo said that CLSS method was earlier applicable only in urban areas but PHFCL signed an MoU with the Ministry concerned with National Housing Bank as the nodal agency on July 10, and according to the agreement, PHFCL has been approved to give CLSS benefits to people of rural areas .
People of the valley districts namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching can avail the benefits of CLSS, he added .
Hemo pointed out that an earlier agreement signed on August 21 in 2015 enabled the company to provide CLSS housing schemes to urban areas.
Another agreement signed on April 18 this year expanded the customer base to include middle income groups and the agreement signed on July 10 enabled the company to expand its CLSS housing scheme to rural areas .
He expressed desire to expand the scheme to the hill areas but stated that the MLR Act poses immense inconvenience and the land itself is not mortgageable .
The CLSS housing scheme provides a loan of around Rs 15 to 63 lakh and the subsidy is at around Rs 2.68 lakh.
It was initially around Rs 2.20 lakh .
Explaining that anyone can apply for the loan, Hemo said that PHFCL has established branch offices at many places including Nambol, Moirang, Thoubal, Kakching and Sekmai.
