Imphal, November 30 2015:
Out of 400 consumers of Khongnang Gas Agency who have been issued 2691 refills between April and November this year, 52 consumers are yet to get subsidies entitled on each refill.
With around 11656 consumers, Khongnang Gas Agency has the highest number of consumers among LPG distributors located in Bishnupur district.
Out of them, around 10587 are DBTL consumers.
Among them, eight refills each have been issued to 43 consumers, seven refills each to 205 consumers and six refills each to 152 consumers.
Meanwhile some high ranking Government officials have offered to surrender subsidies they enjoyed on LPG refills with an appeal to provide refills at least to the minimum requirement.
Some senior doctors of RIMS too have made it clear that they are not keen of the subsidy given on LPG refills.
They too appealed to make sure that refills are available when they are required.
Notably, subsidy given on LPG refill is meant for economically weaker sections of the society.
Taking due note that many people who were economically better off were also enjoying LPG subsidy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a special campaign called 'Give it up' .
The campaign launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas hinges on the concept that when LPG subsidy enjoyed by an economically sound consumer is surrendered, a new LPG connection can be provided to a family belonging to BPL category.
