Awareness programme on VAW, cyber crime held

As part of 16-day activism against gender based violence campaign launched by Women Action for Development (WAD) from November 25, an awareness programme on gender, human rights, violence against women and cyber crime was held at Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School today.
Vice Principal of the School Hemolata, Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary, WAD, Jina Khumukcham, an innovator of 'Our rest House' attended the programme as the presidium members.
According to the organisers, the main objectives of the programme was to make the students aware on the increasing crime against women and girls and its prevention.
It also aimed to sensitize the students on the preventive mechanisms and legal procedure on gender based violence, cyber crime and domestic violence etc.
Jina Khumukcham an innovator shared her experience of domestic violence during her early life.
She also shared her testimony on how she became an innovator and she also shared the role of the youth in preventing crime against women.
She also advised the students to use their leisure time productively by producing small handmade home based products.
Advocate Laimayum Sevananda of Human Rights Law Network shared the topic on laws related with women and children, the issues of cyber crime and its preventive mechanism.
Sobita Mangsatabam shared her experience on the gender based violence and the present trends of cyber crime against women and the declination of sex ratio in Manipur.
Altogether 250 students, teaching and non teaching staff participated in the programme.
There was an interaction between the students and resource persons.
