'Disturbed Area' status extended for one more year

Manipur State Cabinet on Monday resolved to further extend the "disturbed area" status not only in Municipal Areas but in the entire State for one more year.
The cabinet also granted permission to open Sugnu SDC circle under Waikhong Sub-Division of Thoubal District.
Monday's cabinet sitting was chaired by Chief Minister and was held from 9.30 am onwards at the Conference Hall of Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department (CAF&PD) Minister and spokesperson of the Government Moirangthem Okendro stated that the Government considered the feedbacks of State Police and Central Security Agencies including Army, CRPF and BSF on the current law and order situation in Manipur.
These agencies recommended the Government to extend the "disturbed area" status for one more year to act upon the underground organisations that are operating in both hills and valley of Manipur.
After minutely observing the feedbacks, the State Government resolved to extend the "disturbed area" status under Section 3 of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1956 starting from December 1 (Tuesday) onwards in the entire State, said M Okendro.
He added that the Chief Minister will have the power to review the status after six months considering the law and order situation of the State.
The Government spokesperson further stated that the cabinet also resolved to open Sugnu SDC circle under Waikhong Sub-Division of Thoubal District.
The Sugnu SDC circle will cover eleven villages namely Mahou, Wangoo, Chairel, Nungou, Nungou Wapokpi, tangjeng, Tonsen, Sugnu, Lokhi Maru, Toupokpi and Serou.
The opening of the SDC circle is likely to lessen the difficulties faced by the villagers while seeking government documents.
The State cabinet also resolved to amend The Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994 to fully develop the urban local bodies of the State.
After amendment, the Government will have permission to create 27 posts of Executive Officers and nine posts of Assistant Executive Officers who are transferable between Urban Local Bodies.
Moreover, the cabinet also granted permission to the State Health Society, Manipur to appoint 357 different posts on contract basis under National Health Mission (NHM).
The posts include Medical Specialist Doctor, Psychiatrist, ENT Specialist, Dental Surgeon, MBBS Doctor, Physiotherapist, Staff Nurse, Programme Consultant, Counselor and Social Worker among others.
The State cabinet also resolved to fill-up the 24 vacant posts of AE/ASW in Public Works Department (PWD) through Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Out of the 24 posts, ten will be filled-up through direct recruitment while the remaining posts will be filled-up on promotion basis, said M Okendro.
