Kangpokpi, November 30 2015:
Civil society organizations of Sadar Hills have decided to impose an indefinite economic blockade along the Trans Asian Highway No.1 from midnight of December 2 over the dilapidated road condition of the highway today.
Spokesperson of Sadar Hills CSOs Lamcha Chongloi said "we had highlighted the deplorable road condition of the Trans Asian Highway No.1 a number of times to the department concerned and the State Government officially as well as through media.
"But, our hope of revitalizing the pathetic condition of the highway remains even after repeated pleas which has ultimately forced us to come up with a warning of intense agitation if the condition of the lifeline of the State is not taken care of within a week time," Lamcha added.
"Interestingly, the Addl Chief Engineer, PWD met the CSOs on November 23 only to give us another false promise," said Lamcha Chongloi while adding that during the meeting the Addl Chief Engineer assured to begin the work immediately after two days but nothing has been done till today.
"Therefore, we collectively decided today to impose an indefinite economic blockade along the highway within Sadar Hills till the work starts," Lamcha Chongloi added.
He further said that apart from the ghastly condition of the road, there are innumerable potholes along Trans Asian Highway No 1 giving extreme hazardship to thousands of commuters from other States and the local residents.
"It also perfectly indicates the unacceptable attitude of the State Government apart from the departments concerned and contractors", asserted Lamcha Chongloi.
Meanwhile, Sadar Hills CSOs have appealed the general public to team up with the CSOs during the stir and urged all the State and inter-State transporters to respect the blockade and abstain from any act of defiance stating that they [transporters] are the worst victim of the bad road condition of the highway.
Sadar Hills CSOs will also hold the department concerned and State Government solely responsible for any untoward incident during the blockade.
