World Philosophy Day

The Department of Philosophy, Manipur University in association with the Indian Council of Philosophy Research (ICPR), New Delhi and MU observed the UNESCO initiated World Philosophy Day at the Humanitarian block today.
Attending as chief guest, MU VC Professor H Nandakumar said the observation was originally planned to be held on November 19 but as it overlapped with the Inter College Youth Festival 2015, it was rescheduled for Nov 30 .
World Philosophy Day is observed every year on the third Thursday of November.
The first observation of World Philosophy Day was held at UNESCO in 2002 .
It was proclaimed an international level day in 2005 at the General Conference, 33rd session held in Paris in remembrance, encouragement and promotion of philosophical studies.
Though the observation is being held in a humble way, its significance cannot be underestimated, Prof Sarma said.
Professor Sibnath Sarma, Department of Philosophy, Guwahati University was the key speaker of the function.
School of Humanities, MU Dean Professor M Mani Meitei, Professor S Lokendrajit, MU and Professor S Shyamkishore, MU were also present in the celebration.
