The fourth State Conference cum cultural festival of India People's Theatre Association, Manipur State Unit which concluded at Thoubal Mela Ground yesterday has resolved to exert pressure on the State Government to implement the Manipur Cultural Policy which has been drafted.
The policy was formulated while Dr M Nara Singh was the Minister of Art and Culture.
But the Cabinet is yet to give its approval to implement the policy.
A source from IPTA, Manipur informed that the required administrative approval for introducing the draft of the policy for discussion in the Cabinet had been given and a Cabinet memo prepared in this connection.
But the draft policy is yet to be discussed by the Cabinet and gave its due approval for implementing it.
State Government should take up measures at the earliest possible for implementation of the Cultural Policy, the source said, while pointing out that only thing that is required now is the approval of the Cabinet.
The two-day conference cum cultural festival of IPSA Manipur was inaugurated at Shumang Leela Sanglen at Palace Compound on December 25 and concluded at Thoubal Mela ground yesterday.
Besides presentation of cultural programmes, serious discussion on problems being faced by performing artistes in the State were discussed.
Jugolbandi, songs, cultural dances of various communities, martial art, Dhol Cholom, Basanta Ras were performed on the second and concluding day which also conducted a singing competition specially meant for the male singers who sing in female voice in Manipuri Shumang leelas.
The competition sponsored by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council was participated by eight Shumang Leela troupes.
N Imo of Jupiter Artistes' Union won the first prize of Rs 2000, L Kanta Meetei of Peace maker Artistes' Association and M Prem of Pakhangba Artistes' Union were awarded Rs 1500 and 1000 respectively for securing the second and the third positions respectively.
