The Court of Assistant to Deputy Commissioner, Shillong has fixed Feb 18 2005 for issuing the order on the case pertaining to the alleged encroachment on the complex of the historic Manipuri Rajbari (Red Lands) located at Shillong under East Khasi Hills Dist.
The same Court has already heard the final arguments of the case filed by the State Govt way back in 1994 against the encroachment by a businessman, said P Ibomcha Govt Advocate cum Public Prosecutor (Dist) who appeared on behalf of the State in the present case.
Red Lands, having an area of 81,888 sq ft has been a property of the State since the British period however it was sold for Rs 2 lakhs by the late Maharaja Oken-drajit in 1980 to two businessmen at Shillong namely (L) Pyngprop and Nismat Roy Laloo.
However, the State Govt bought back the land at Rs 11 lakhs in 1990 from the two businessmen after the public in Manipur raised a hue and cry over the matter.
The case came up after Nismat Roy Laloo encroached and constructed a building within the Rajbari premises measuring 135 ft by 33.10 ft.
He is presently enjoying rental fees from the building.
