Imphal, February 24 2012:
BD Behring, noted tribal politician who is also an ex-MP and ex-MLA has served an ultimatum to the State Governor that he (Behring) and his well wishers would launch a fast-unto-death stir if the Governor fails to direct all officers posted in the hill districts to start functioning at their respective place of postings within three months.
The Governor was reported to have assured him of taking action in a positive note.
In a tte--tt with the Governor yesterday, BD Behring pointed out to the Governor that out of the nine districts in Manipur, five are in the hills where there are 32 Sub-Divisions/Blocks and 36 SDC offices.
He remonstrated that most of the offices in the hill districts are found locked and functioning in the respective houses of officers in Imphal or wherever their houses are located.
Behring also apprised the Governor of the functioning of important offices like DRDA and PWD Chandel, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul Divisions in Imphal.
He further pointed out that other DLOs like DD (TD), District Agriculture , Horticulture, Sports, Forest, Fishery, and Industry Offices are not practically functioning in the hill districts of Manipur even as the officers concerned enjoy their monthly salaries regularly.
Against these backdrops, BD Behring informed the Governor, no progress and development in the hill districts is visible, which is painful.
He submitted to the Governor that he and his supporters would launch a fast-unto-death agitation if the demand is not fulfilled within a period of three months.
