Imphal, February 24 2012:
The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) today appreciated the positive attitude and forward-looking step taken by the NSCN/GPRN cabinet which has resolved to endorse the FNR appeal to re-strengthen the reconciliation process to Chairman SS Khaplang for his final approval.
This decisive move brings renewed hope to the Naga people and FNR remains optimistic that Chairman SS Khaplang will respond to the people's desire for Naga Reconciliation in the same spirit that he signed the Covenant of Reconciliation in 2009, the Forum said in a statement.
However, it is very saddening to hear that a cadre of the NSCN/GPRN was killed today at Ahthibung.
The FNR once again pleads to the concerned groups to issue an immediate order to their army commanders to stand down and to refrain from any acts of violence and provocation, the Forum observed.
It is also learnt that two cadres of the GPRN/NSCN are under the custody of NSCN/GPRN in Mon.
The FNR urges the NSCN/GPRN to immediately release them in the larger interest of Naga Reconciliation.
For the sake of real peace and genuine reconciliation, we strongly urge the leaders to demonstrate their able leadership to stop their cadres from indulging in violence once and for all, the statement of the Forum said.
Furthermore, the FNR encourages the NSCN/GPRN cabinet to uphold their resolve to restrain its army commanders from launching any offensive or aggressive campaign in order to facilitate conducive atmosphere for the "Naga Reconciliation Meeting" on February 29 .
At this juncture it is pertinent for the FNR to appeal to reasonable people not to be confused, nor try to create confusion.
The thirst for Naga Reconciliation is undeniable.
The very basis for the formation of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation in 2008 was to facilitate a process to enable the Naga groups to meet and hold dialogue to create a pathway to Reconciliation, the Forum noted.
