Imphal, September 23 2019:
Lamenting that around 2 to 3 new born babies die not long after birth every year at Ringui village, Ukhrul district, the Ringui Women Society has appealed to the State Government to establish a much needed Primary Health Centre (PHC) at the village at the earliest.
Ringui village is located around 70 kilometres from Imphal.
The village, which can be reached by travelling along Mahadev Lamkhai on the Imphal-Ukhrul road, is populated by around 3000 people.
The village has only a single dispensary but whenever anyone falls ill, they are usually taken to Imphal or Ukhrul for necessary treatment.
Speaking to media persons, Ringui Women' Society chairperson Tammila appealed to the Government to establish a PHC for the village which falls under Chingai AC and informed that the women of the village have to give birth at their homes and only in certain cases are they taken to Imphal or Ukhrul.
The chairperson told The Sangai Express that many times, the babies die soon after birth and added that in March this year, a baby died just a day after it was born.
Tammila lamented that 2 to 3 babies die every year after birth and added that there have been many cases of women dying in childbirth.
She continued that earlier, the women/girls in the village married even before they attained 20 years of age but now the society has made it mandatory for the girls to reach 20 before marriage.
Girls who marry before 20 have a higher chance of complications during childbirth, she said.
