MU research scholars stage sit-in

Research Scholars of Manipur University staged a sit in protest today condemning the non-release of fellowship for non-NET research scholars of the varsity, at the university's complex.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesting research scholar said that just after a notice or circular was issued by the university that a three month fellowship for the non NET research scholars had been sanctioned without mentioning the specific year or month, the Registrar in charge issued a notice mentioning that fellowship will be granted as per the final registration date, which is condemnable.
The protesting scholars decried the act of the authorities concerned for breaking the rules and regulations mentioned in the varsity's ordinance and UGC guidelines.
Maintaining that fellowship in other universities including NEHU, Assam University, JNU, etc are granted according to the date of provisional registration, the protesting research scholars urged all the authorities of the varsity to grant fellowship to the non-NET research scholars by following the rules and regulations.
A resolution should be adopted during the meeting of the academic council tomorrow, they said while warning that the research scholars will take up intense modes of agitation from September 26 if the academic council fails to come up with a concrete solution.
