Imphal, March 22 2021:
Disposal of solid waste materials collected by Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and NGOs from different parts of Imphal and greater Imphal areas at Lamdeng Solid Waste Management Plant has been suspended till March 26 .
Speaking to media persons today, IMC Public Health and Sanitation Committee chairperson H Nutanchandra said that Lai Haraoba rituals of Ima Laikhulembi are now underway and as per the local customs there are certain difficulties in disposing waste materials at Lamdeng during these days.
As requested by the local people of Lamdeng, waste disposal at the solid waste management plant has been suspended till March 26, Nutanchandra said.
For the time being, waste materials collected from Imphal city would be disposed at Kombirei Housing Complex, near Central School, Lamphelpat.
IMC and people of the locality have reached an understanding to this effect, he said.
He also appealed to all the people to bear with the inconveniences till March 26 when NGOs do not come to collect household waste materials.
NGOs can dispose household waste materials at Lamdeng Solid Waste Management Plant after March 26, Nutanchandra said.
He said that only IMC's vehicles would be allowed to dispose waste materials at Kombirei Housing Complex, Lamphelpat and no NGOs would be allowed to dispose waste materials there.
Appealing to all the people not to dispose waste materials in rivers, drains and roads on the excuse that NGOs are not coming to collect waste materials, Nutanchandra urged one and all to pile up waste materials at proper places so that NGOs can collect them as soon as they resume waste disposal service.
He also appealed to all the vendors of Khwairamband not to litter waste materials but pile them at proper places.
