Imphal, July 21 2020:
The Manipur Students' Association, Delhi (MSAD) has warned of a news item christened '****' being circulated on social media.
MSAD, in a statement, said this news item is going viral and it is recruitment for prostitution in the pretext of providing platform for modelling and stage performance.
This ''****' also claims to provide a platform for online auditions, selfie contests etc through their website and collects private photos and details of many young girls especially from Western South East Asia.
To entice the youth, they offer prizes, opportunity to be a model and contract works, it said.
They cover their activity to trap people by doing publicity for fake modelling, Artificial Intelligence, Starts-up, sports etc, it further said.
"Even a few of our own naive people are also involved in the recruiting process," MSAD claimed.
People should be very alert about such platforms, especially girls.
Many incidents had happened in the past in which girls from the North East including Manipur who are seeking employment were trapped in the path of forced labour, sexual slavery, commercial sexual exploitation by taking advantage through many agencies including natives of the region, MSAD said.
It is very important to research the authenticity and legitimacy of every such platform and the persons behind these platforms before engaging, MSAD said.
Once trapped in such activities, victims are threatened and blackmailed to remain silent, not to expose the truth (prostitution etc), it said.
An awareness programme is urgently needed for all, said MSAD and appealed to all to look into such matters seriously and take precautions urgently.
